"I guess I had a hard time really articulating where I was coming from with things, but I remember that you had said something about sourcing it from what you'd mentioned back when you sent me some tunes and stuff - "crushing boundaries/fear, struggle, nature" - And I guess some of the lyrics spoke of depression, inner struggle, and some of it relates, at least to me, about conquering a lot of those struggles. "The mind and hand should be able to peel and chip, rip apart every layer" and "an inner fire can fuse cracks into a brighter whole" were kind of some inspirational lines, and I generally just had this sort of visual from listening and reading the lyrics. Mind and will and internal struggle being used as a source of power to crush and conquer things that would otherwise strangle and choke the life out of a person. I won't lie that a lot of this image is deeply tied to a lot of my personal depression I've been experiencing over the course of this past winter, and trying to divert that downward trend, trying to find a way to turn my anxiety and depression into a source of power instead of a source of self-negation." -
