In November 2017, the UK government refused to acknowledge an EU amendment that recognises animals as sentient beings. Depending on who you spoke to, this was either because ‘animals aren’t sentient’ (they are), ‘the law already recognises animal sentience’ (it doesn’t) or ‘the EU uses terminology which doesn’t reflect the English demands’ (it does, but Brexit means Brexit of course). There is an astounding amount of studies which affirm animal sentience, through this we should ban factory farming immediately. I’d prefer everyone to go vegan or vegetarian, but I know how that can be a priviliged standpoint. Rather, ask yourself whether you have a choice to avoid factory farmed meat. If so, please do.
